There are many kinds of technique of teaching writing that can be
used. One of them is teaching writing by using instructional media, especially
by using a map. It was believed that the techniques could help the students in
improving writing a paragraph construction and by using a map it could give
stimulus students to improve writing. In this case, the writer tried to know
how the effectiveness of using a map on the students pre-writing achievement of
seventh grades at SMPN I DURENAN-TRENGGALEK Academic 2009/2010.
The problem the studies are: (1) how is the students’ achievement of
pre-writing taught without using a map at SMPN I DURENAN-TRENGGALEK? (2) How is
the students’ achievement of pre-writing taught by using a map at SMPN I
DURENAN -TRENGGALEK? (3) Is there any significant difference between the
students’ achievement in pre-writing taught without using a map and taught
using a map?
The populations of this study were the seventh grades at SMPN I
DURENAN-TRENGGALEK Academic 2009/2010. The sample of this study was the seventh
grades of G class (control group) and H class (experimental group) that taken
in purposive sampling.
In this study the writer used in experimental research design with
quantitative approach. This method was used to know the effectiveness of using
a map on the students pre-writing achievement of seventh grade at SMPN 1
DURENAN-TRENGGALEK ACADEMIC 2009/2010.
In this study the writer used some method of collecting data; they
were observation and administrating test to collect the data. The analysis
technique used was t-test statistically analysis for treatment maps as media in
teaching writing.
Research study shows that it
was known that in experimental group there was 16,6%students had excellent
score, 66,6% students had very good score, 20% students had good score and 3,3%
students had fair score after they being taught by using a map. Based on the
statistical test by using t-test, it showed that to=:29, 17>:28, 85. It means that Ho saying that is there is no
significance influence of using a map on the students achievement in pre-writing
to the seventh grades students of H class at SMPN I DURENAN-TRENGGALEK is
rejected and Hi saying that there is significance influence of using a map on
the students achievement in pre-writing to the seventh grades students of H
class at SMPN I DURENAN-TRENGGALEK is accepted. From the result can be
concluded that” there is significance influence of teaching writing by using a
map on the students’ achievement.
