Exultation can be reached through reading. This kind of activity is believed to be an effective way in avoiding listlessness. Many people love reading for looking for pleasure or just spending spare times. When reading foreign literature, the readers may also get supplementary knowledge about different culture. This activity can also stimulate people to learn English as well as to learn about themselves, people, lifestyle, and other societies.


Reading becomes my prominent activity for doing the analysis. As an English literature student I have read many literary works such as poetry, short story, novel, drama script, and so on. During my study, being deeply involved in literary works is considered to be one of the main tasks.

In the real life actually we use figures of speech to express our ideas, thoughts, feelings and minds. Figures of speech is also related to the literature and human life. Figures of speech, manner of speaking or writing, gives to our sentiments and thoughts a greater force, more vivacity and agreeableness.


The study analyzes a book entitled You Can if You Think You Can, the writer finds some figures of speech which are expressed in this book. Figures of speech are not only used in speaking but also in writing. Besides, the figures of speech are also commonly known as rhetorical devices.

The Effectiveness of Using Make a Match Method on Students’ Achievement in Vocabulary of the Fifth Grade Students of SDN II Plosokandang, (PBING-60)


One of the method used in teaching vocabulary is make a match. Make a match is a simple and easy method to use it is interesting. It is suitable for the school which has limited method to teach English. The teacher  doesn’tdifficult is when teach use this method. Make a match is one of method that will help teacher easier to teaches vocabulary. It is not just make pairs, but it is will help the students get new words easier. By using make a match the students will be easier to improve their vocabulary achievement.
The problem this study: ((1) how the students vocabulary achievement before taught by using make a match method. (2) how the students vocabulary achievement after taught by using make a match method. (3) is there any different the students achievement before and after taught by using make a match method.

An Analysis of Conflicts of the Main Character in Thomas Hardy’s The Return of the Native (PBING-59)


Literature is the expression of life in the word of truth and beauty; it is the writer record of man’s spirit of the thought, emotion, and expression. Literature has been regarded as human creation to express ideas or thoughts. Also, Literature is something that gives pleasure and understanding for readers. There are two kinds of literature, fiction and non-fiction. In this study the writer chooses novel as a subject of study. Novel is a story that happens in human daily life. By reading novel, the readers would find conflict that happened among the characters in the novel. Conflict always happen in our daily life. Conflict is the important part of novel. Without conflict, a novel will be loss of sense. Therefore, this study deals with the character’s conflict in The Native of the Return.

The effectiveness of using TGT method to the students’ vocabulary achievement at seventh grades students of MTS Ma’arif NU Karangan Trenggalek (PBING-58)


Vocabulary has important role in mastering English. In general the goal of learning a foreign language is that the students are expected to be able to master the four language skills, they are listening, speaking, writing and reading. However to master language the students have to know and understand the language elements. One of the components is vocabulary.
 One of the methods used in teaching vocabulary is TGT(Team Game Tournament). TGT is one of cooperative learning methods. In TGT, students learn in a group. The students are divided into some groups consist of some students who have good ability and some students who have lower ability especially in vocabulary.Then, the students from different group who have the same ability will compete among groups in the tournament to be the winner team.
The researcher designed the research problem as: (1) How is the students’ achievement  in vocabulary without using  TGT method?(2)How is the students’ achievement  in vocabulary using  TGT method?(3)Are there any significant differences between  student’s  achievement  in  vocabulary using TGT method and without using  TGT method?

            Speaking is one of important skills in learning language especially English. It is much needed for students of English Education in university level because in the process of teaching and learning the lecturer always asks them to give opinions. Therefore, the learners should master it. To make them easy to express their ideas orally in teaching learning process, the researcher uses a series and single picture as media in speaking teaching learning process.

The problem of the study are: (1) how is the student score in speaking taught by using a series picture?, (2) how is student score in speaking taught by using a single picture?, and (3) which media are more effective to improve the students’ ability in speaking.

Improving Students’ Reading Skill through Group Investigation Method at the Eleventh Grade of MA.Arrisalah Ponorogo (PBING-56)


One of teaching methods that can be used in teaching reading is group investigation method. Group investigation method is one of cooperative learning methods. In group investigation, students learn to understand reading text in a group. In this method, the students are divided into some groups consisting 2 to 6 students. Each group analyzes and discusses the reading text given by the teacher. After that, they have to present the result of their analysis and discussion.
The formulation of the research problems was how can group investigation method improve students reading skill at eleventh grade of MA Arrisalah Ponorogo in academic year 2010-2011?
The purpose of this study was to know how group investigation method can improve students’ reading skill at eleventh grade of MA Arrisalah Ponorogo in academic year 2010-2011.
The research method of this study is classroom action research. The researcher used Kemmis and Mc Taggart’s classroom action research model, which have four procedures in each cycle, they are: planning, acting, observing and reflecting. He also chose report text as the topic that will be applied in his research. The subjects of this research were 16 students of class eleven D at MA Arrisalah Ponorogo in the academic year 2010-2011.

Syntactic Analysis on The Headlines in New York Times in The First Two Weeks of May 2014 (PBING-52)


Human as a social being needs to interact and communicate with others inthe society. The intention in communicating with others is many, which one of those are to get and to exchange information. The media used in communication are also various. As an international language, English is used in many online news, one of the most famous of all is The New York Times. Regarding with online news, the advantage is not only to increase people’s information but also to enlarge their knowledge, especially for the EFL students. As for the EFL students, it can increase their vocabulary and provide them with the larger scope of reading material. In this research, the researcher focused the analysis on the Syntactic categories, Phrase Structure Trees and Phrase Structure rules. It is necesary to know the class word (syntactic category), what this certain word belongs to. This is to prevent the possibility of misunderstanding. Phrase structure trees allow us to break down a sentence until the very base construction, in this case is syntactic and lexical categories so that we will find out what class a word is in a sentence. Later, the researcher expects to find out the sentence/phrase structure patterns occurred in the New York Times headline to know the trend of language structure used in the headlines.

Using Mind Mapping technique to Improve the Students’ Speaking Ability of the Seventh Grade Students at SMP Negeri 3 Kedungwaru Tulungagung (PBING-51)



In learning English, students should master the four- language skills. There are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Speaking is important skill which the students should master it well. The aim of speaking lesson is to make the students be able to communicate with other persons using English. Based on the interviews with English teacher, the researcher founds the problem. They are, the students still the lowest score in English based on the students’ score, the students had less motivation in teaching and learning process so the most of them dislike to learn English, and also the teaching and learning process tend only to use conventional method especially to speaking.
 Based on the problems above, the writer conducts a research by using Mind Mapping technique to improve the speaking ability of the seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Kedungwaru Tulungagung in the academic year 2011/ 2012. And the statement of the problem are “ how can mind mapping technique improve the students’ speaking ability of the seventh grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Kedungwaru ?”. The objective of this research was to find out how Mind Mapping technique can improve the students’ speaking ability.

English is one of the important things in this world because English is an international language and grammar is one of important element to master in English. When the students have a problem in grammar, practice, review, and exercise make better.
 There are many methods or ways to master in English; especially in grammar. One of method is EGRA, so the researcher wants to know the effectiveness of EGRA in teaching and learning English grammar on the Second Grade in MTs Jam’iyatul Ulum Demangan Kras Kediri.
Based on the background of the study, the problem of this study is formulated as follows: (1). How is students’ Grammar Achievement before being taught by using EGRA? (2) How is the students’ Grammar Achievement after being taught by using EGRA? (3) Are there any significant different scores of the students’ grammar before and after being taught by using EGRA? And the purposes of these studies are to find out the students’ Grammar Achievement before being taught by using EGRA, to find out the students’ Grammar Achievement after being taught by using EGRA, to find out significant different scores of the students’ grammar before and after being using EGRA.
This research is used as an input to improve the process of the students’ achievements in mastering English especially in Grammar.

In learning English there are four skills must learn by student, that are listening, writing, speaking, and reading. In each skill has English component must be learn that is pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar. This skill include in English Curriculum on Junior high school. Some theories said that there are difficulties in learning those four skills. In learning listening and speaking the student have to know much of vocabulary, how to say a word, and the grammatical use when they hear a voice and when they want to say something. In reading skill the student have to find out the content or the massage on the text. Beside the student must know the meaning each word and the sentence and especially the grammatical roles used in the text. Because by knowing those they will get the correct information. In learning writing the student must know much of vocabulary when they write a sentence and how to arrange the sentence use the grammatical pattern correctly. Based on the reasons above the researcher had conducted research about students’ difficulties in learning English skill. This research is important to done to know the students difficulties in learning English skill.

The final project is about the teaching narrative text in improving Writing through fairy tale to the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Ngunut Tulungagung Teaching writing to senior high school is not an easy task. It requires a lot of creativity from a professional teacher.
The objective of the study is to find out the students’ achievement in writing narrative texts. It is expected that the research would be useful for the teachers and students in language teaching and learning process.
Classroom Action Research is a method of finding out what works best in your own classroom so that you can improve student learning. There are many ways to improve knowledge about teaching. Many teachers practice personal reflection on teaching, others conduct formal empirical studies on teaching and learning. Classroom Action Research is more systematic than personal reflection but it is more informal and personal than formal educational research.

Hence, the appropriate method of the teaching and learning is very important to help students master the speaking ability. Therefore, buzz group is determined to be a method of teaching speaking in this research. Buzz group is an activity which arouse the students to talk confidently in the class. This activity invites the students to convey their ideas freely in a small group before every student speaks in front of the teacher to express their thought. In this method, the students are divided into six groups which every group consists of approximately five people each. From this activity, it is expected that the students will get a lot of informations so that they are not anxious when they convey the information about certain topic given by the teacher.
