Boarding
school is considered as one of a good system to increase
student’s English speaking proficiency. Teaching and learning in boarding
school is not being committed in the class only (formal education), to make the
students active in learning especially in English speaking also committed
outside class (informal education) certainly by using interesting strategies. Strategy
is one of determinant in a success. So, institute will be success if it has a good strategy.
The
formulation of the research problem is what are the instructional strategies used by MAMNU Boarding School to increase
English proficiency of the students?. This research focuses on
describing instructional strategies used by MAMNU boarding school to improve
English speaking proficiency of the students.
The
purpose of this research is to find out the instructional strategies used by MAMNU Boarding School to increase
student’s English proficiency.
Research
method: 1). the research design in this research is descriptive design with
qualitative approach, 2). the data source of this research are taken from the
primary and secondary data. 3). the research instrument of this research use
some techniques are interview, documentation, and observation. 4). the data
analysis was analyzed without using statistic technique. The researcher
descriptively analyses the data from observation, documentation, and interview.
The researcher analyses the data continuously until the researcher gets a
common conclusion.
The
result showed that MAMNU boarding school use Student-center strategy based on
communication and interaction perspective as instructional strategy to increase
English speaking proficiency. This is applied trough ISL-Center’s program that
create a foreign language environment.
