English is one of the important things in this world because English
is an international language and grammar is one of important element to master
in English. When the students have a problem in grammar, practice, review, and
exercise make better.
There are many methods or
ways to master in English; especially in grammar. One of method is EGRA, so the
researcher wants to know the effectiveness of EGRA in teaching and learning
English grammar on the Second Grade in MTs Jam’iyatul Ulum Demangan Kras Kediri.
Based on the background of the
study, the problem of this study is formulated as follows: (1). How is students’ Grammar Achievement
before being taught by using EGRA? (2) How is the students’ Grammar Achievement after
being taught by using EGRA? (3) Are there any significant different scores of the
students’ grammar before and after being taught by using EGRA? And the purposes
of these studies are to find out the students’ Grammar
Achievement before being taught by using EGRA, to find out the students’
Grammar Achievement after being taught by using EGRA, to find out significant
different scores of the students’
grammar before and after being using EGRA.
This research is used as an input to improve the process of the
students’ achievements in mastering English especially in Grammar.
The research design that is used in this research is the experimental
research designs by pre-experimental. The treatment is given to the
experimental group by giving EGRA. The population is students of Second Grade
in MTs Jam’iyatul Ulum
Demangan Kras. The sample is Second Grade in MTs Jam’iyatul Ulum Demangan Kras. The students or sample are 26 students.
The method that is used
in collecting the data is pre-test and post-test that are given to experimental
group and. The
researcher in this research uses T-Test stated by Arikunto (2006:86) as
formulated below:

The result of the research by using pre-test and post-test above can
be known the mean and standard deviation of the students in pre- test (40.15)
and (5.6) were smaller than the post- test (49.84) and (7.5); it reveals that
the result of the pre-test and post- test were different.
From the data analyzing, the calculation
of t-test (6.667) is greater
than t-table value (2.064) with n = 26, degree of freedom (df) n-1 = 26-1
= 25 in the level of significance 0.05. It means that the
result of t-test is higher than t-table and the hypothesis is accepted. So, the
researcher concludes that test exercise is effective in teaching English
grammar in Second Grade at MTs Jam’iyatul Ulum Demangan Kras Kediri.
