There are many kinds of technique of teaching writing that can be
used. One of them is teaching writing by using instructional media, especially
by using a map. It was believed that the techniques could help the students in
improving writing a paragraph construction and by using a map it could give
stimulus students to improve writing. In this case, the writer tried to know
how the effectiveness of using a map on the students pre-writing achievement of
seventh grades at SMPN I DURENAN-TRENGGALEK Academic 2009/2010.
The problem the studies are: (1) how is the students’ achievement of
pre-writing taught without using a map at SMPN I DURENAN-TRENGGALEK? (2) How is
the students’ achievement of pre-writing taught by using a map at SMPN I
DURENAN -TRENGGALEK? (3) Is there any significant difference between the
students’ achievement in pre-writing taught without using a map and taught
using a map?
