INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of the Problem

It is known that English is an International language which has been received by countries all over the world. The function of it as a means of communication in meeting business or other activities among government over the world. Beside that English is used at science of knowledge, new invention  in field of modern technology, pharmaceutical, medical, etc.

As a developing country, Indonesia really needs English because Indonesia government is trying to improve all aspects which are usually faced by all countries. One of these aspects is education, which is essential. As an English teacher to be the writer focuses her attention to the teaching English as the language of the world. 

In Indonesia, English is learnt and taught to junior high school, Senior high school even at university. English means that something important for the student to be taught at school based on situation and condition of the object area. But there are some problems that faced by the students. It is realized that most students get bad mark. So, it proves that English is really difficult for the students. There are four skills in learning English they are listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Speaking is very important because speaking and human being cannot be separated from each other. Speaking is used to express their ideas and to communicate to people in civilized world. That is way speaking is important. But the students of SMK or graduated of it still get hard to be a good speaker. The problems are:

So the number of the receivers are numerous and unpredictable in that way we need to scrutinize which receivers go to which media, In this case audio - visual media represented by television and visual media represented by broadsheet or famous as newspaper. Revealing all aspects of these two media will such an effort that needs a lot of energy and time wasted. So, I will concentrate on the point of the style of those two media as the sender of spoken and written message.

In avoiding the readers' misunderstanding, the writer would like to give the limitation of the title It is of course that in giving the limitation of the title is not at wholly. From the thesis entitled " The Influence of the Ability in Mastering Dialogue on the Achievement in Learning English to the Second Year Students at M A N Magelang ", the writer just wants to explain some terms related to the title. Especially those are becoming key words. They are : Influence, Ability, Mastering Dialogue, Achievement, Learning Eng lish, and MAN Magelang.

Influence : It is a noncountable noun. It means power to affect sb’s character, beliefs, or actions through example, fear, admiration, etc. According to Professor Sir Randolph Quirk in his dictionary entitled 'Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English' N.Edn., the word Influence means the power to have an effect on someone or something without the-use of direct force or command . In this thesis the influence shows the relation between the ability in mastering dialogue and the achievement in learning English.

A. Latar belakang masalah

Pendidikan adalah suatu usaha atau kegiatan yang dijalankan dengan sengaja, teratur dan berencana dengan maksud mengubah atau mengembangkan perilaku yang diinginkan. Sekolah sebagai lembaga formal merupakan sarana dalam rangka pencapaian tujuan pendidikan tersebut. Melalui sekolah, siswa belajar berbagai macam hal.

Dalam pendidikan formal, belajar menunjukkan adanya perubahan yang sifatnya positif sehingga pada tahap akhir akan didapat keterampilan, kecakapan dan pengetahuan baru. Hasil dari proses belajar tersebut tercermin dalam prestasi belajarnya. Namun dalam upaya meraih prestasi belajar yang memuaskan dibutuhkan proses belajar.

            Proses belajar yang terjadi pada individu memang merupakan sesuatu yang penting,  karena melalui belajar individu mengenal lingkungannya dan menyesuaikan diri dengan lingkungan disekitarnya. Menurut Irwanto (1997 :105) belajar merupakan proses perubahan dari belum mampu menjadi mampu dan terjadi dalam jangka waktu tertentu. Dengan belajar, siswa dapat mewujudkan cita-cita yang diharapkan.

Human beings as one of the three alive-creatures besides animal and plant have a particular ability, which makes him so special, that dominates the others. They are able to adapt, to survive and to analyze the universe phenomenon, which make their quality of life better and better since the past. They have the whole ability because God has granted them brain. Their curiosities are so great that they learn more and more. Besides, something that makes them more special than the others is they know the way to express their feeling, thought, and emotion. Something to provide “a place” for all of the people’s expression is literature.

Literature, according to Moleong as quoted by Spadlex (2000:13), is the knowledge which is earned by human beings arise conduct and it is used to reflect and express experience. Another opinion said that literature is one of the great creative and universal means of communicating the emotional, spiritual, or intellectual concerns of mankind (The Encyclopedia of Americana, vol. 22:559). It seems that something human being does deals literature, especially in communicating. To communicate to each other may be done by a means, such as by a letter, speaking directly, by phone etc. Even something they wrote or said, no matter what its content, could be called a literature. Well, in this life, in purpose or not in purpose, they have involved in a literature.

Human being is god’s creature, since born he or she has given thought and mind that they use in their interaction in their environment to each other. The thought and mind appear the human’s emotion. The emotion is coming to response anything which derives from outside.

The emotion that owned by human being consists of two kinds. They are good and bad emotion. Good emotion usually fulfills someone’s life dominating with love, kindness etc. however, the people in bad emotion, his or her life will be dominated by hatred. This emotion commonly makes the people in trouble as well as in the big disappointment. Hatred in very bad to be owned. To get the clear understanding on hatred, Webster English language dictionary define :

Strong aversion detestion coupled with ill, either the simple emotion or emotional state of aversion abhorrence.
(Webster, 1974 : 1144)
From the quotation above can be said that hatred is the feeling of dislike to someone because of one or some, reason. The reasons can be caused by disapointed, betrayed etc.
The quotation above shows that hatred is the feeling of dislike to someone because of one or some reason. At least it can be said that hatred is a response towards someone’s bad behavior or attitude. Dealing with the analysis has taken hatred as the subject matter on this study.

PENDAHULUAN

A.  LATAR BELAKANG

Sektor pariwisata  merupakan salah  satu sumber devisa non migas  bagi Pemerintah Indonesia.         Bagaimana  pengembangan  sektor pariwisata   yang dilakukan oleh pemerintah saat ini, pengembangan sektor pariwisata sedang giat- giatnya dilakukan oleh pemerintah dalam rangka menghadapi peningkatan jumlah wisatawan mancanegara yang berkunjung ke Indonesia. Dengan adanya Program Unggulan Visit  Indonesia Year 2008, Era globalisasi telah membuat Indonesia menjadi salah satu negara yang potensial dalam berbisnis, sehingga banyak orang asing yang berkunjung ke Indonesia selain untuk tujuan wisata.

Apakah  tujuan  dari  pengembangan  pariwisata  yang  dilakukan.  Seiring dengan perkembangan dan kemajuan zaman, pengembangan pariwisata bertujuan untuk  mengetengahkan   berbagai   kegiatan   strategis   dan   berbagai   rekaman peristiwa pembangunan  kebudayaan  dan  kepariwisataan,  sehingga  masyarakat memahami  sekaligus   memberikan   apresiasi   terhadap   arah   kebijakan   yang ditempuh dalam rangka tercapainya pembangun kebudayaan dan kepariwisataan yang  demikian  besar  dan   kompleksnya  tantangan  yang  dihadapi  Indonesia belakangan ini.

PENDAHULUAN

A.  Latar Belakang Masalah

Masyarakat Indonesia memiliki struktur masyarakat yang terdiri dari berbagai lapisan sosial masyarakat dan terbagi lagi dalam stratifikasi sosial. Lapisan  sosial merupakan  tempat  yang  diambil  seluruh  masyarakat  yang mempunyai  kedudukan  sosial  yang  sama  atau  setingkat.  Stratifikasi  sosial adalah tatanan vertikal berbagai lapisan sosial  berdasarkan tinggi rendahnya kedudukan  (Hendropuspito,  1989  :  109). Individu  yang   masuk  dalam golongan tinggi dalam suatu stratifikasi sosial akan memiliki status sosial yang tinggi pula dengan berbagai keistimewaan hak yang dimiliki. Hal inilah yang mendorong masing-masing individu berlomba untuk memperoleh status sosial tinggi dan salah satu upaya untuk mewujudkannya dengan penghasilan (ekonomi), pendidikan, pekerjaan dan kedudukan sosio-politik. Lebih lanjut, diantara banyak cara untuk memperoleh status sosial, bekerja merupakan cara yang sering ditempuh untuk memperbaiki status sosial individu.

Harapan seseorang  untuk  mendapatkan  penghasilan  besar  sehingga status  sosialnya  menjadi  lebih  baik  bukanlah  sesuatu  yang  mudah.  Hal tersebut dikarenakan pekerjaan-pekerjaan tertentu yang  memberikan penghasilan  besar  seringkali mensyaratkan  sesuatu  diluar  individu  harus bekerja keras,  seperti pendidikan, kemampuan dan ketrampilan yang tinggi. Kondisi  seperti  inilah  yang  sering  menjadi kendala  banyak  orang  untuk mendapatkan pekerjaan dengan penghasilan yang diharapkan. Situasi tersebut semakin  diperparah  dengan  jumlah  lapangan  kerja  yang terbatas  sehingga mendorong tingkat pengangguran tinggi.

In this modern era, when everyone lives with their right, where there are a lot of women’s movements, we still can find dependent women that are trapped under man’s authority. Some call it as patriarchy, actually these kinds of case have many causes not only patriarchy.  Still people assumed that patriarchy is the main factor of it. Here are some examples of domestic violence:

Bima, NTB. A teacher tortured his wife because his wife forbad him to do polygamy. Mujnah, the wife, reported her husband behavior to the local police department. Police had  caught  Mujnah’s husband and sentenced him 5 years in jail. The cause of domestic violence  in  this case is quite simple; it is just a problem of self control of the husband’s passion. In other words, it just because one reason, troubles never end.

 1.1 Background of the Study

It is obviously understood that in our lives, family is so worthy. Family, as a child’s first  environment, sets the pattern for her/his attitudes toward people, things and life in general. As Teagarden (1946), has pointed out that “all manners of attitude deviations can be and often are,  accounted for by the subtleties of family   relationships”.   Therefore,   the   writer   concludes   harmonious   family relationship depends on the attitudes settled between them.

Freud as cited by Hurlock (1956: 499) states that “there have been marked changes in  attitudes toward children”. Freud contents that too much “parental tenderness” accelerates sexual maturity, “spoils” the child and makes him unable to be satisfied with a smaller amount of love in later phase of life. This attitude toward too much love and interest in and affection for the child was echoed by one of American Psychologists, J.B. Watson (1928: 499). He was  the one who sounded the loudest warnings to parents to beware of too much mother love because of the harmful effects on the personality development of the child.

There are many kinds of parental attitudes established by researchers, and the most commonplace are permissiveness, overprotectiveness, submissive, rejection, domination,  acceptance,  and  submission  to  a child  (Hurlock:  1956).  Those parental attitudes influence children’s emotion. According to Warga (1983: 219), there are five basic emotions, i.e. fear, love, anger, sorrow, and joy. In line with Warga, Ekman and Friesen (1971: 5) suggest that “there are six basic biologically programmed emotions: happiness, sadness, fear, anger, surprise, and disgust”. To be more specific, Hurlock  (1956: 226) in his book Child Development divides children’s emotion into seven, i.e. fear, anger, worry, jealousy, joy, affection and curiosity.
